Silverchair clients are already benefiting from the new Google Scholar functionality for their content on the Silverchair Platform. Google Scholar Subscriber Links offers on-campus access to full-text content directly from the search results in Google Scholar for users of libraries who have opted in to the service. The ability to immediately click through via the search page offers a seamless research experience to scholars and has been shown to increase usage of library resources by up to 20%.
An extension of the Subscriber Links service, CASA offers the same seamless access solution to the increasing number of off-campus and mobile researchers. Simplifying the user experience, CASA logs users’ institutional affiliations and provides continued access to their institution’s subscribed content as quickly and easily as if they were on campus. CASA also eliminates the need for offsite researcher workarounds and pirate sites and ensures that institutions may most effectively serve their users while also gaining more complete and accurate usage data.
Universal CASA extends this service yet again, providing the same easy pathway to legitimate, accessible content even when the user’s journey begins from somewhere other than Google Scholar. Recognizing that research may involve a variety of sources and origin points, Universal CASA indicates to a reader that they have subscribed access to content through display of a small badge on the article page.
“Working closely with our partners at Google Scholar, we are happy to continue to offer our publishers the latest in important access initiatives like these,” said Jake Zarnegar, Chief Product Officer at Silverchair. “Our collaboration with Google is part of Silverchair’s priority to address emerging industry trends and opportunities, as Google Scholar is often found leading such advancements.”
“Silverchair and Google Scholar have worked together for a long time. This is a great step in our continuing collaboration", said Anurag Acharya, Distinguished Engineer at Google. "Subscriber Links, CASA, and Universal CASA will make it possible for researchers everywhere to seamlessly access all the articles that their libraries have subscribed for them."
