Silverchair’s Platform Strategies meeting, an industry conference exploring the intersection of business strategy and technology, will be held in New York City on September 25 and 26.

In this series of blog posts, the Silverchair team will give you a preview of Platform Strategies’ program, a look behind the scenes at our planning and preparations, and share what we’re looking forward to. You can find out more about Platform Strategies here and request your invitation by writing Strategies@silverchair.com.

As I look ahead to Platform Strategies 2019, I am excited about the opportunities that this meeting presents. In my role as a Product Delivery Manager, it's easy to get caught up in the details of individual projects, statements of work, and priorities for the next program increment. Platform Strategies is an opportunity to step back and survey the larger landscape of scholarly publishing – to hear about challenges across the industry and the creative and compelling solutions being considered and implemented.

I am particularly interested in hearing what Will Fortin of Columbia University has to share about The Research and Publishing Experience – View from the Front Lines. The perspective of the academics, researchers, and practitioners who use the sites and features that we build provides much-needed context. What are we doing that brings value? What do they find most useful? Or most annoying and unhelpful? I hope to gain some insights that I can share with my team to help them better understand the positive impact of the work we do.

The panel discussion on Capturing More of the Scholarly Lifecycle to Add Value is another that I see making an immediate contribution to my work on upcoming projects involving gray literature, supplements, and preprints. Learning about what is happening in these areas will help me guide those projects more effectively.

Finally, I am looking forward to the opportunity to interact with my counterparts from the clients I work with every day as well as past and potential colleagues. Connecting as people and not just voices on the other side of a computer screen is invaluable to building good partnerships. You never know when a few minutes chatting over a plate of snacks or a breakfast muffin might lead to the next big idea!

Please register here to join us for what is sure to be an engaging and thought-provoking event!
