In this series of blog posts, the Silverchair team will give you a preview of Platform Strategies’ program, a look behind the scenes at our planning and preparations, and share what we’re looking forward to. You can find out more about Platform Strategies here and register here.
As a relative newcomer to Silverchair, the 2018 meeting was my first official Silverchair event. It was the first time I met many new colleagues; many of the Silverchair clients were new acquaintances as well.
As a veteran of many industry events, I expected to find the typical meeting program, themes and set of speakers. What I found instead was a community. Like-minded industry colleagues were engaging in lively dialogue on topics of mutual interest. A group of technologists were debating different standards, new technologies, and potential workflow impacts. The setting was permeated by a lively camaraderie and a sense of community that can be hard to find.
My favorite presentation from last year was given by Tobias Dengel, CEO of WillowTreeApps, who addressed the topic of mobile applications, especially the use of voice interfaces in apps. To someone who is interested in technology, but who typically lives on the far periphery of the cutting edge, his presentation was simultaneously fascinating, terrifying and educational! It was especially fun to hear him talk about how his own children engage with technology, since children really are more accepting of, and more easily engaged by new interfaces and apps.
This year’s program promises to be equally informative and engaging, with a diverse slate of speakers. I’m looking forward to hearing Daniel Hook talk about the intersection of technology and traditional publishing activities, and Oren Beit-Arie addressing the possible future of content aggregation from an aggregator’s perspective.
