(Charlottesville, VA, and Alexandria, VA) August 1, 2024 – Silverchair and the American Academy of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery Foundation (AAO-HNSF) announced the launch of the Otolaryngology Core Curriculum (OCC), a new online education platform that is designed to ensure that residents have a strong foundation of core knowledge required for otolaryngology practice. Since the OCC launched on July 1, 2024, 104 otolaryngology residency training programs (which is 79.4% of the total U.S.-based programs) and more than 1,391 residents-in-training have enrolled at the start of this inaugural academic year.

The OCC provides otolaryngology residents across the United States the opportunity to learn from a unified curriculum consisting of 100 module topics to support a complete two-year course of study. AAO-HNSF, in partnership with the academic otolaryngology community has created each module to include a weekly course of study, case-based learning, and a set of topic-specific assessment questions. The platform provides otolaryngology residency training program directors the capability to actively participate in residents’ learning, track their progress, and evaluate their need to help residents progress successfully throughout their training. As part of the build, Silverchair collaborated with AAO-HNSF to customize the learning module layout and formatting to fit their brand and needs. The OCC is also integrated with the AAO-HNSF SSO ecosystem to enable seamless access for participants in subscribing programs.

“The OCC reflects the growing need for personalized education offerings tailored to the needs of modern learners,” said Will Schweitzer, Silverchair CEO. “Silverchair has been actively engaged over the last decade with developing highly tailored digital education and certification products, and we’re delighted to see AAO-HNSF successfully launch the OCC to support the education and training needs of the otolaryngology community.”

“It has been a pleasure working with Silverchair to build this game-changing education product,” said James C. Denneny III, MD, AAO-HNS/F Executive Vice President and CEO. “The OCC is a compendium of continually updated didactic information covering the breadth of knowledge in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery through a standardized, versatile curriculum designed to support U.S.-based otolaryngology residents in training as well as eventually extending that reach to residents-in-training across the globe and all members of the healthcare team. The OCC is such an impactful education tool that it could be effectively adapted to function as a resource to educate team members of all disciplines.”
